The Dresden Dolls are headlining a one-night-only show on Sept 13th 2025 for Tangente Festival in St. Pölten, Austria for a night of magic in the open air, in the old town square. I was honoured to be commissioned to create the artwork for their tour poster.
The backdrop of this scene is the historic baroque town square of St. Pölten itself, with the clocktower of the Rathaus and the Dreifaltigkeitssäule (Holy Trinity Column) recognisable against the night sky. The square is transformed for this one night, into the stage for a fantastical gathering of acrobats, artists, dancers, and, dreamers—which I had so much fun creating 😊.
I always draw my inspiration from the Dolls’ distinctive theatrical aesthetic and strive to embody their spirit of passion and playfulness whenever I make work for the band. In this piece, we wanted to shine a beacon of light into the darkness of the times we are living through, illuminating the band’s deeper themes of diversity, community, and inclusivity.
We started with the idea of having Amanda and Brian at the edges of the composition— which morphed into into their forms arching over and embracing the square, unifying and holding together the community conjure with their art.
At the heart of the art, I wanted to capture the magic, love and enchantment that lingers in the air around these two extraordinary performers and their bohemian community, and mirror the spellbinding way they weave past and present, and intimacy and spectacle, into their performances, something I was lucky enough to see and feel for myself in my unforgettable American trip last year.
