NIKI MCQUEEN | VISUAL ARTIST

Niki McQueen

Niki McQueen is a visual artist from South Africa. Her richly-coloured, finely detailed and otherworldly artworks retail both locally and to global buyers and collectors. Available works from her portfolio of over 500, can be purchased as both original artworks and limited-edition Giclee prints, shipped globally.

Niki is recognized for her ongoing collaboration with US punk cabaret duo, The Dresden Dolls, which started with the creation of a collection of artworks for their 2023 reunion tour. She also collaborates with lead singer, bestselling author, human rights activist and TED speaker Amanda Palmer, and has worked with Nathan Monk, bestselling author and noted human rights activist. She has also placed in notable local competitions and group-exhibited both nationally and globally.

She has pioneered a technique in which artworks are created from digital composites which are painstakingly hand-printed and hand-drawn onto heavy archival papers and then washed, painted colored and finished, sealed, and varnished using a variety of materials, in 10 step process she has developed and perfected over several years.

Her work expresses powerful and emotive personal symbolism and worlds of magical realism, exploring realities beyond reason and the familiarity of everyday existence. Themes include anatomy, psychology, archetypal interplay, eroticism, mythology, innocence, joy, decay, and rebirth.

Her work is broadly divided into two portfolios: Niki McQueen Art – surreal and symbolic art, and Life Beyond Reason – whimsical, light-hearted pieces

NIKI's work is divided into two main portfolios...

NIKI MCQUEEN ART

Dystopian worlds and fever dreams. A place for uncomfortable and discordant feelings, dark humour and fragile things. For loved and gone and lost and found.

LIFE BEYOND REASON ART

Where magic is real and the imagination is unfettered and wild. Where fish fly and elephants play soccer. A world where children (and adults) are free to play without fear, minds unleashed

NIKI MCQUEEN ART COLLECTIONS

“These collections summon the places where stories are born, where unfelt emotions dwell and unthought thoughts await. These are places beyond the mundane: inner and outer consciousness. They are explored through the production of impossible encounters and beautiful beings, charged with symbolism and borne of grief, joy, love, damage, disease and lessons. They exist to evoke reflection and curiosity, discomfort and relief.”

LIFE BEYOND REASON ART COLLECTIONS

Life Beyond Reason seeks to remind us about the healing and restorative power of the magic that lives inside the minds of children. With untarnished eyes they dream dreams that are for us, long gone.

THE DRESDEN DOLLS & AMANDA PALMER

Every morning I come into my lounge, sit down in the corner of my couch, nurse my cup of coffee and look up at MY Life Beyond Reason creation, that sits up on my wall.

What started out as an uncontrollable urge to share with the artist a vision that popped into my head, no that isn’t right, a feeling that blossomed in my heart turned into the gorgeous artwork that I now get to call my own.

I am super privileged to be the very first person to purchase one of Niki’s artworks. I have bought two pieces – Evolution and the Awakening – both speak to my passion for coaching and inspired my business logo and focus.

Niki also created a unique piece especially for my 10-year-old daughter that depicts her 100%.

Thank you Niki for your contribution to art.

I absolutely LOVE the three pieces that I purchased. I see them as an investment, because Niki’s work is truly remarkable. They were shipped up to Johannesburg with no issues.

The detail in the [image] is also exceptionally rendered. This is a really beautiful piece, reflecting some real talent.
