Why is being prickly so much easier than allowing the grief to flow or gush or scream its way into the world where it belongs?
Grief held inside becomes a poison that slowly kills, and yet some societal and generational construct holds it bound there for so many of us. Unfelt and unexpressed. We were taught not to cry, punished when we did. Our eyes dried up. Our screams and sobs became silent. Our smiles became fixed, habitual, and frozen. We stopped meeting the eyes of others afraid they might see, for it was only there we knew our grief still lingered…
