Greetings from a very chilly Cape Town ❄️❄️❄️. The temperatures have dropped to a fitting midwinter BRRRRR, and I've been in full-blown hibernation mode.
|
Art-wise, I've worked on two pretty detailed and complicated commissions which have taken up the bulk of my time. They will be released later in the year.

The third work in the Liberty Triptych which was made in collaboration with Amanda Palmer, will be released on this week, so keep an eye on the socials! I will post more on my website and Patreon later in the week. I've completed one new work of my own since my last missive, posted below. Commission work is often fun, but can be very challenging in that it usually requires a tweaking (sometimes lots, sometimes just a bit) of your own artistic vision. This can sometimes feel uncomfortable and at others revelatory. Usually it results in a better artwork, but that depends on the collaborator and my interpretation of their ideas.

There is something different about making a work that is just my own, like the one below. It has a narrative that is mine, and for better or worse, it's my art. My puzzle to solve. My subconscious resolving unrealised aches, fears, joys, and liminal truths. It is cathartic and necessary for me to make my own work, no matter how many commissions I have to finish. My art suffers if I don't.

That said, I have a few pieces I am toying with, but being in hibernation mode, I'm going slowly and taking things very easy. I've popped a few of the ladies from the Elysian Dreams collection in the highlights section this month. 🖤🖤🖤
